Janette has filled me in on your flower evenings over in Cyprus. This is fab idea and I am so touched you are helping to raise funds for Chris’s leaf and the cancer charity.
Chris and I met in November 2008 when we were both single parents. We met through a single parents holiday club and knew straight away we had found in each other our soul mate. Like 2 pieces of a jigsaw we just instantly clicked. Fast forward 5 years to November 2013 and Chris was just a few weeks away from dying of Cancer. Our happiness and lives together were cut short by this cruel disease. Chris’ cancer didn’t show itself until it was too late and was very rare, neither of us had even heard of germ cell cancer. It was a total shock to us that just 7 months into our happily married lives, my healthy gym going hubby was being told he probably would not make Christmas. Sadly he passed away in December just before his 44th birthday leaving behind 3 sons, 2 step daughters, and me, his heart broken wife.
Cyprus was our special place. Chris had lived there twice in his life, as a nipper and when he was in the army. It was where he took me for our first ever holiday and we visited many times after that. It just felt like ‘home.’ It was always our dream to one day move out there and live out the rest of our lives in the sunshine. There was never a question of where we would get married, on 30/10/12 we tied the knot in Paphos, the best day of my life. I was lucky to have just one wedding anniversary and know without the chemo and treatment Chris had at The Christie Hospital in Manchester, we would have not been given the chance to celebrate one year of married life. Whilst Chris was sat in hospital enduring rounds of chemo he would talk openly about what he wanted me to do once he was gone and that was to fund raise in his name. He hoped that the money raised would help vital research and other families would not have to be torn apart. He knew it would also keep me busy and help me have a focus when my world would be tumbling down. I am so amazed and proud that even when facing death his thoughts were on helping others and me, not himself. The cancer did not kill his spirit, his love of life and the courage he showed continues to live on even now.
So we need to raise £15000 in order for Chris’ name to be placed on the tree of hope in the garden at The Christie. This garden is an oasis of calm and peace in the mayhem and chaos. I often looked at that tree last summer through smiles and tears and I am determined that my darling husband will not only be remembered but for his wish to come true, that others won’t have to suffer our heartache. From the bottom of my heart I want to thank you for supporting this event.
I have attached a picture of Chris you might want to use in the garden I have spoken about. I love the way the light is shining on him and makes me think where ever he is now he is being looked after and cared for. The other is the last ever picture of us just a few days before he died.
Thanks again for all your support,
